Q.6.1 What is digital socialisation? How can social media change communities and their practices and traditions?

Digital socialisation is to learn the ways of living online, across national borders, local cultures and societies and has to be inclusive for equal participation.

One of the areas where social media has had a profound cultural impact is gender relations, especially in highly conservative societies where this has enabled young women and men to establish sustained and direct contact with each other. In some cases, a crucial element of this is the use of fake accounts.

In a compelling case study, a young Turkish woman describes how she is able to access music, art, and literature that might not normally be available to her in a conservative society. She uses a nickname so cannot be recognized but laments that she may never be known for her music because of the need to use an alias.
